Why I loved visiting - and staying in - L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue
A personal journey
Visiting L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue was an unforgettable experience, and I'm happy to share why I think you should add it to your travel itinerary. From the moment I arrived, I was captivated by the town's unique charm and vibrant atmosphere.
Right in the heart of Provence, I found myself immersed by the sounds and beauty of the Sorgue River, which winds its way through the town with gently sounds and beautiful ducks and other wildlife.
One of the highlights of my visit was exploring the beautiful brocante shops.
If you're an antique lover or simply enjoy a good treasure hunt, you'll be in heaven here! Although I wasn't there for the markets, the shops alone are worth a visit. I thoroughly enjoyed the eclectic mix of antiques, vintage finds, and local crafts. Although I'm not a big shopper, there's something incredibly satisfying about discovering a unique piece of history to take home as a keepsake or gift.
The town is dotted with beautiful churches, pretty squares, and an absolute abundance of cafés and restaurants (many by the water's edge). It's the perfect place to explore, relax and base yourself to discover more around the region.
Also, it's totally accessible , being level, so it's easy to get around and would even suit mobility-challenged people. I love identifying places like this because I want everyone to be able to relax and enjoy beloved France.
My friend and I stayed for 10 days and used the town as a fabulous location to visit the Luberon Valley highlights. We had a car (which we picked up at Avignon TGV station) and driving in Provence isn't as scary as I imagined it would be - even although we drive on the opposite side of the road in Australia.
L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is a destination that captures the essence of Provence and leaves a lasting impression long after you've departed. Enjoy!
